Iran, Turkey In Talks To Set Up Joint Industrial Town

Iran and Turkey have discussed details of a plan to set up a joint industrial town on the borderline between the two neighbors in a recent meeting of the delegations of the two countries.

The plan was on the agenda of the talks between the Iranian delegation headed by Vice President for International Affairs Ali Saeedlou and the Turkish team.

Turkey's Trade and Industry Minister Nihat Ergun told reporters on Thursday that several areas of cooperation were discussed in the meeting.

He said that among the major plans discussed was setting up a joint industrial town on the border of the two countries, adding that important measures have been taken in this regard.

The minister went on to say that the joint sub-committees formed to pursue the plan have reached certain agreements on the location of the town and added, the final decisions will be announced within the next few days.

Ergun said that the two delegations also discussed the implementation of the already signed agreements and the development of ties in economic and trade sector.

Saeedlou, for his part, said that Iran and Turkey enjoyed broad and historical relations and called for the further improvement of economic and trade cooperation.

He said that the two countries were planning to increase the volume of trade transactions to $23 billion by the end of the year.

Saeedlou, heading a delegation, arrived in Turkey on Wednesday to hold talks with Turkish officials on bilateral cooperation and pursue the implementation of the already signed deals.
